Formula
Boards = Ceiling Area × Waste factor ÷ Board Area
For a 40 m² ceiling using 2.4 m × 1.2 m boards with 10% waste, allow for 16 boards after rounding up.
Multiply board length by board width to get the area of one board. Increase the ceiling area by the waste percentage, divide by board area, then round the result up to a whole board.
Use it when estimating gypsum board, plasterboard, drywall sheet, or similar ceiling-board quantities before buying materials.
Do not forget cut waste, bulkheads, openings, off-cuts, damaged sheets, or a board size that differs from the default 2.4 m × 1.2 m.

Board Area = Board Length × Board Width. Adjusted Ceiling Area = Ceiling Area × (1 + Waste % ÷ 100). Boards Needed = Adjusted Ceiling Area ÷ Board Area.
Always round the final board count up to the next whole sheet. If the ceiling layout creates many narrow cuts or complex shapes, use a larger waste allowance.
