How the formulas work

Percentage of a number:
Result = (Percentage ÷ 100) × Number
What percent one number is of another:
Result = (Part ÷ Whole) × 100
Percentage increase or decrease:
Result = ((New − Old) ÷ Old) × 100

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Divide the percentage by 100, then multiply it by the number. Example: 25% of 200 is 0.25 × 200 = 50.

How do I know if the result is an increase or a decrease?

If the new number is larger than the old number, it is an increase. If it is smaller, it is a decrease.

What happens if I enter 0 as the original value in percentage change?

You cannot divide by zero, so percentage change from 0 is not valid in the normal formula.
